Apple Upgrades iPhone OS To 3.1.3

Apple has released a new version of their iPhone firmware. It includes a number of bug fixes and security updates.

Minor Upgrade

It’s only a minor upgrade but includes improvements to the accuracy of the iPhone 3GS’s battery level indicator and fixes issues with some third-party applications that refuse to launch.

Security Updates

The patch also includes five security updates, including a refresh of the iPhones CoreAudio software that prevents ‘maliciously crafted’ MP4 files crashing the iPhone or running arbitrary code.

The firmware is 228 MB in size and is being distributed via the regular iTunes update process.

Significant Update Coming Soon

Apple is expected to deliver a more significant update to the iPhone firmware to coincide with the launch of the iPad in a few weeks time. It will likely include support for apps that are designed to dynamically adjust the screen size to cope with both the iPhone and the iPad screens – we can’t wait.
