Will The New iPhone 4G Have A Micro SIM Like The iPad?

We all now know that the soon to be available Apple iPad comes complete with a tiny SIM card, thus not allowing the iPhone user to use their SIM in the iPad, so we were wondering whether the new iPhone 4G will take the same tiny card……

Size Really Does Matter

According to a feature in Wired, they believe that the decision to give the iPad a small card was not driven by space considerations, obviously the iPad is larger, but, they say, by AT&T’s business strategy. Meaning they can charge customers twice for 3G wireless data, once for the iPhone and once for the iPad.

Wired also speculated that Gemalto probably make the micro SIM card in Apple’s iPad. And according to their Vice President of business development, Jean-Louis Carrar, when asked why Apple would choose to designate a Micro SIM to the iPad, he said “The main reason a manufacturer would choose micro SIM, also called 3FF, is to facilitate smaller cellphone designs, as has happened already in Europe”.

Despite all these rumors I feel that it’s more likely that Apple will be putting Micro SIMs in all their new devices from now on. Obviously they don’t need to save space within the iPad but by saving space within the iPhone they could even incorporate two Micro SIMs – now, there’s a thought……..
