Naturally, each chapter&#8217;s heading is of relevant food types: Herbs and Seasonings, Seafood, Vegetables and so on, but a search option for the name in any one of the previously mentioned languages (as well as English) makes the Food Guide a very powerful tool.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>Of the 1,500 or so food types, the guide provides a brief description along with the country of source (though not if it&#8217;s widespread) and how it&#8217;s usually prepared, so you&#8217;re unlikely to get a unpleasant surprise if you do order from the menu. There are high-quality photos for each too, usually in its raw, uncooked form, but no less useful for that. A neat and practical way of suggesting how special or, perhaps, how pricey the item is likely to be, is a rating (up to 5 stars) describing &#8216;culinary significance&#8217;. However, one of the features I used most often was the derivative options listed under &#8216;See also&#8217;; this is a great way of finding alternative choices in the supermarket, hotel, youth hostel or restaurant (delete as appropriate to lifestyle).</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>New to version 1.1 is the option to add individual items to a favorites folder, perhaps as a way of making a shopping list or simply as a note of the main ingredients for a special meal. Either way, it&#8217;s a most useful addition. I&#8217;m sure there must be a hundred other uses, too. As a foody (and food photographer), I really enjoyed using this app, though I may not be a typical consumer. However, for the perennial or even the occasional European traveller (there are some references to American foods) the Food Guide is a real must have.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>There are plenty of apps offering ringtones but few, if any, have the versatility, or fun for that matter, of AutoRingtone PRO. For under a buck, the app creates ringtones from a selection of FX and converts text-to-speech for customized messages. A word of warning though; there&#8217;s no censorship, so anything goes. But do be careful, if your phone rings in an important meeting there could be red-faces all round. Assuming you&#8217;re sensible (&#8230;er, like us), Autoringtone PRO has some 20 plus voices and over 100 FX, so you there&#8217;s plenty of choice without the wacky options. What&#8217;s more, it&#8217;s a cinch to set-up. So easy in fact, there&#8217;s a real possibility of you having 100&#8217;s or 1000&#8217;s of customized ringtones.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>Rather than using email to deliver the ringtones (and prevent being labelled a spammer), the developer has, sensibly, opted for user registration. It&#8217;s no biggie.You first have to register an email address and then retrieve your ringtones from the <a
href="http://www.AutoRingtone.com">NoTie Software</a> (actually <a
href="www.autoringtone.com/">www.autoringtone.com</a>) website. You&#8217;re asked to use one of your email addresses, but there&#8217;s a possibility someone could see and &#8216;hijack&#8217; your ringtones. Still, they would have to be pretty sad to want to do that. All the same, you can use any &#8216;identifier&#8217;, unique name, as the server uses this for ID purposes only. Ringtones are automatically deleted after a week, or you can delete them after you&#8217;ve downloaded them.</div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>Another neat feature is the Manual mode, leveraging the iPhone&#8217;s ability to adopt ringtones for the Alarm settings. This means you can use the alert for reminding you, for instance, to collect the children from school, take medicine or whatever else. All you need do is type in the chore and select it from your Alarm settings (of course). It&#8217;s an extremely handy bonus feature.</p></div></div><div
class="LessonStep top"><div

Proactive Sleep tracks your sleep and displays your sleep patterns when you set an alarm at night. Listen to ambient music to help soothe yourself to sleep, and to help you wake up in the morning, listen to any song in iTunes and play a stimulating game. Designed with the science of sleep in mind because it tracks the two major components of sleep: the homeostatic and circadian components.</font></p><p><font
color="#000000">The app provides users with personalized feedback designed to help improve sleep hygiene. Similar to diet and exercise, sleep is an important part of a healthy life-style. We hope that by giving you feedback on your behaviors just by doing everyday tasks like setting an alarm, you will get information to help you better understand and improve your sleep. The app also includes a bunch of sleep/wake promoting features. If you already set an alarm at night, why not get something out of it? </font></p><p><font
color="#000000">This app is based on the science of sleep, unlike many other self proclaimed smart phone alarms. How refreshed you feel is largely affected by two things: how much you are sleeping and the time of day. These components of sleep also have a major impact on the severity of &quot;sleep inertia&quot;, or in other words, the grogginess experienced upon awakening from sleep. The application tracks the two components of sleep based on when you set your alarm and using a stimulating vigilance game it also tracks your sleep inertia. </font></p><p><font

color="#000000">We built Color Expert from the ground up with the creative spirit in mind. Designers of all types, regardless of their medium, have a common thread&amp;mdash;and that common thread is color. We use it to be loud, quiet, bold, subtle, soothing, frenzied and sometimes just to stand out. But working with color can be difficult away from the studio.</font></p><p><font
color="#000000">Case in point. You&#8217;re visiting a client and they want a good color combo to go with PANTONE 123 C. These things can take time. Especially if you have to go hunting around for swatches in your color books. You know, the ones you left back at the studio. Well, not to seem too dramatic, but with Color Expert, it takes about 15 seconds and 8 taps. Make that 9 taps if it&#8217;s not already running. Sure, you&#8217;ll want to play around with it after that. It&#8217;s actually kind of addicting. But what a great place to start.</font></p><p><font
color="#000000">And how about building your Spring Collection&#8217;s palette from that flamingo you saw at the zoo? Well, you can get started on that one in about 8 taps as well. Suddenly your design begins the moment inspiration hits you, no matter where you are. But Color Expert is more than just a Color Wheel and Image Picker, it&#8217;s also a Swatch Book that contains all of your favorite libraries, many with CMYK data. So give it a spin with your iPhone or iPod touch.</font></p><p><font

It is the best way to make your iPhone really outstanding &#8217;cause even if your friend got the same app too, you can choose another skin for iRetro Dialer and safe your individuality. Of course, it is not really useful utility like financial apps, wi-fi apps or other. color="#000000">California based INFOMATO Inc. today released FORGET, a free application for iPhone and iPod touch devices. FORGET is a memory aid for people who are frequently stuck in tip-of-the-tongue moments or whose otherwise brilliant trains of thought are stalled, simply because they are forgetful. FORGET is built around the psychological principles of memory association and recognition, so that even scatterbrains and disorganized people can quickly enjoy its benefits.</font></p><p><font
color="#000000">FORGET works by integrating itself into the process of how people recall forgotten information, and then streamlines this process using patented technology. When people forget something important, they rely first on hints (memory association) to jog their memory, and then hope that the relevant information just pops into their heads. &quot;I had to do this all the time. It was too painful, took too long, and was too unreliable. So I kept thinking: there must be a better way to remember,&quot; said INFOMATO founder and inventor, Dr. Wayne Lo. </font></p><p><font
color="#000000">&quot;FORGET makes memory association easy, effective and reliable because computer technology draws relationships much faster than our brains and, best of all, it does not forget,&quot; said Dr. Lo. To demonstrate how FORGET works, Dr. Lo offers a simple example. In 2008, he was invited by a good friend &#8211; Guillaume &#8211; to visit his home town in southern France, near Bordeaux. His friend&#8217;s mother, Ms. Joubert, had prepared for and heartily welcomed his family&#8217;s visit. As the months went by, Dr. Lo started forgetting Ms. Joubert&#8217;s name. This was especially embarrassing when one day she happened to answer Guillaume&#8217;s telephone. Now, using FORGET, Dr. Lo just needs to associate Guillaume with Ms. Joubert. The next time he asks for Guillaume, he will see Ms. Joubert in a list of hints and quickly recognize it (using recognition memory) as that of Guillaume&#8217;s mother. </font></p><p><font
color="#000000">&quot;Our ability to recognize forgotten information and connect the dots is an amazing trait unique to the human brain and difficult to duplicate using technology. Working in tandem with this trait, FORGET greatly simplifies the data entry that is required,&quot; said Dr. Lo. Here, he could have specifically associated Guillaume&#8217;s mother (instead of Guillaume) with Ms. Joubert. But thanks to the capacity of human recognition memory, he does not need to be specific. He can recall the details without spelling them out. </font></p><p><font
color="#000000">By tapping into the strength of recognition memory, FORGET provides an age-proof solution. Studies show that while our ability to deliberately recall details can drop to 50 or 60% by the time we reach age 65, the capacity of our recognition memory remains at the level of an 18-year old. &quot;FORGET is specifically designed to establish a close complementary relationship with our brain, making use of associated lists to jog our recognition memory,&quot; said Dr. Lo. </font></p><p><font
color="#000000">Consider the following examples. Which would you rather remember?</font><br
/> <font
color="#000000">* Dr. Shenasa or heart doctor?</font><br
/> <font
color="#000000">* psyllium seed or constipation remedies?</font><br
/> <font

/> <font

/> <font
color="#000000">* La Couronne Cafe or affordable French restaurant?</font><br
/> <font
color="#000000">* konnichiwa or Japanese hello?</font></p><p><font

The goal is to empower people like me, who might have great experience, broad knowledge and creativity, but who are continually held back by diminishing memory capacity,&quot; concluded Dr. Lo.</font></p><p><font

class="StepInstructions"><p>Titanifacts is an unusual and unique app, depicting the history leading up to and surrounding the building of one of the most ill-fated ships of all time, RMS Titanic. If you didn&#8217;t know already, Titanic was built a century ago in Belfast, North East Ireland, now known as Northern Ireland.</p></div></div><div
class="LessonStep top"><div
class="StepInstructions"><p>Titanic was built by one of the world&#8217;s leading and innovative ship builders, Harland and Wolff , indeed their bright yellow cranes still dominate the site today, where they still build maritime vessels. Not only did they build the Titanic and sister ships, RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic, if you&#8217;ve been to London in the last decade or more and visited Tower Bridge, you will have no doubt seen HMS Belfast, a former Royal Navy light cruiser moored there, and now a floating exhibit open to the public. Harland &amp; Wolff also built SS Canberra, requestioned by the UK Government as a hospital ship during the Falklands conflict in 1982.</p></div></div><div
class="LessonStep top"><div
class="StepImage"><img
src="http://iphone.maccreate.com/files/2010/03/media_1268066964120.png" alt="media_1268066964120.png" width="337" height="505" /></div><div
class="StepInstructions"><p>Titanifacts centers around the building of the Titanic at the dockyard in Belfast, known as Titanic Dock locally or Queen&#8217;s Island more formally. Although the app consists of several movies optimized for both cellular and WiFi networks, there&#8217; also a blog, news and links with other sites, a number of fascinating maps and a gallery of photos. The picture above for instance, shows the vast hulk of the Titanic, but also if you look closely her sister ship, Olympic, sits alongside (having said that, I&#8217;m not sure which one is which). In the movie&#8217;s commentary, it explains Harland &amp; Wolff were one of the first major manufacturers to adopt documentary photography in the construction of their vessels, providing a unique insight into the sheer scale of the project. The gallery consists of over 20 photos and drawings.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>Queen&#8217;s Island as it is today, courtesy of Google maps, note the 1920&#8217;s Royal Navy cruiser (HMS Caroline) in the berth next to the dock where the Olympic class liners, including the RMS Titanic, were fitted out (the hull or keel was laid out just out of shot, bottom left, but the slipway can still be seen). With a few feet to spare, Titanic only just fitted.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>I decided to include another image from Google maps, zoomed out slightly, showing the slip-way where both the Olympic and Titanic were &#8216;laid out&#8217;, that&#8217;s to say where Harland &amp; Wolff built the hulls. You can just see the two slip-ways (looking like runways) opposite the new ferry terminal, bottom left. Bottom right you can see the huge, bright yellow cranes of H&amp;W in use today. Part of the site is being redeveloped, lets hope there are no plans to build over the slipways and the graving dock.</p></div></div><div
class="LessonStep top"><div
class="StepImage"><img

class="StepInstructions"><p>As well as the small but select gallery of photos the highlight of the app must be the series of movies. Four chapters detailing the history of the Titanic, up to the time she sailed, form the core content. Each chapter can be viewed either over the cellular network or using WiFi, the latter is much higher quality, but even the more compressed files are quite watchable. While the additional content is interesting, it&#8217;s more likely to appeal to ardent Titanic enthusiasts. There&#8217;s little here of the tragedy that was to unfold on her maiden voyage, but one particular fact struck me; even though there were too few lifeboats, the Titanic wasn&#8217;t sailing at full capacity. She was designed to carry 3,500 passengers. In the event, with around 2,200 passengers and crew, Titanic wasn&#8217;t traveling as fast as some rivals when she struck the iceberg. Even so, well over 1500 people lost their lives on that fateful evening.</p></div></div><div
class="LessonStep top"><div
class="StepInstructions"><p>In conclusion, Titanifacts provides a fascinating &#8216;behind the scenes&#8217; look at one of the most infamous events in maritime history. Not only is it compelling viewing for all those interested in the Titanic saga, but it&#8217;s unique delivery makes it an ideal learning aid for children; let&#8217;s hope this is the first of many more to come.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>As you may of thought this is a music matching game, you don&#8217;t have to use the preset music though you can use the sounds from your own iTunes library. The aim of the game is to match the music clips out of a number of random icons on the screen. It is an audial memory game basically.</p></div></div><div

class="StepInstructions"><p>You can play as one player or two. As soon as you see the note icons, you select one and will hear a music clip playing, click on another icon to see if the sound matches. If it does, they will both go green and you will gain points. If not, they will both stay in-situ relying on your memory to select one when you hear the music clip again.</p></div></div><div
